Cleaning a ceiling fan can be a pain in the neck using a standard tool as a feather duster. When doing this, you see all the dust particles scatter like a bunch of kids in a toy store landing on the floor and other furniture. And who want’s to extra money on a Swiffer duster with an expandable handle? Well the green living blog, Re-Nest, has found a hassle-free solution just using an old pillow case. Here’s how to do it:

Hook your old pillow case over a fin of the ceiling fan, hold the end and slide it along the fin. The pillow case traps all the dust and when you’re done you can take it outside, turn it inside out, shake it clean and wash it as usual.

Your ceiling fan(s) will be cleaned in seconds leaving you to focus your time on more important things… TV.

Take them seriously and use the time during a Tornado Watch to get yourself prepared. For those of you who don’t know the difference between a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning, the definitions from the National Weather Service are listed below:

Tornado Watch: Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in and close to the watch area. These watches are issued for large areas by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, and are usually valid for four to six hours.

Tornado Warning: Strong rotation in a thunderstorm is indicated by Doppler radar or a tornado is sighted by skywarn spotters. These warnings are issued on a county by county basis by the local Weather Forecast office in Chicago/Romeoville.

2. Get Protection:

Gather blankets, pillows or even a mattress to cover/protect yourself from falling debris. Goggles and head-gear (bike helmet) can be worn for extra protection.

3. Get Low:

Get to the ground level of your apartment building which could be an underground parking garage, a neighbors first floor apartment or the center of the ground floor hallway. Those of you living in a high-rise apartment may not have the time to get to the ground floor of your apartment building. In that case, you should seek shelter in your apartment closet, bathroom or interior hallway where there are no windows.

*Above is a list of general guidelines to follow in the event of a tornado. Please contact your property manager for specific action plans regarding your apartment community.

Well, I do agree that our bodies aren’t meant to be sitting around all day and if you need more convincing of that you can check out the graphically organized stats from Medical Billing and Coding below.

So, what’s the solution? Well you can pay $1,000 – $2,000 for a stand up desk or you could save yourself some money and make it a point to get up, stretch and walk around every half-hour or so at the office. The second option seems more appealing and besides, this presents the opportunity for your coworkers to see your bright, smiling face.
